This edition first published by Secker & Warburg 1951 Published in Penguin Books 1957

This translation was first published in England in a Limited Edition in 1950. For this edition two short omissions have been made, with the consent of the author. They are on pages 249 and 284, and are indicated by a space and the word '[omission]'.

TRANSLATOR’S NOTE TO THE LIMITED EDITION

This translation has been made from the text of the first edition of Si le grain ne meurt, 1920, of which only 12 copies were printed. Some of the proper names have been altered, in accordance with the second edition of 1924 (in reality the first public edition). A short passage referring to a matter of detail has been omitted, as it was from the edition of 1924, on account of one of the author’s cousins having objected to it as inaccurate.
